Aperol Spritz: Ingredients and Cost
The Aperol Spritz is one of the most popular cocktails in the world — and one of the cheapest to make at home. Here's exactly what you need and what it costs.
What you need
The classic Aperol Spritz recipe is 3-2-1: three parts Prosecco, two parts Aperol, one part sparkling water or soda. In practice that's about 90ml Prosecco, 60ml Aperol, and 30ml soda per glass, served over ice in a large wine glass with a slice of orange.
How much Aperol per bottle
A standard 700ml bottle of Aperol contains enough for approximately 11 Aperol Spritzes (at 60ml per drink). Aperol is widely available and typically costs between £10–£16 per 700ml bottle in the UK depending on the retailer.
Prosecco cost
You'll use roughly a third of a standard 750ml Prosecco bottle per 3-drink round. A decent Prosecco Doc ranges from £8–£12 per bottle, making it approximately £3 per Spritz for the Prosecco component.
Cost per glass
Combining Aperol and Prosecco, an Aperol Spritz at home costs roughly £2.50–£4 per glass depending on which retailers you buy from. Compare that to £12–£16 in a bar or restaurant.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I substitute Aperol in a Spritz?
- Yes. Campari makes a more bitter Spritz; Lillet Blanc makes a drier, wine-forward version. Hugo Spritz uses St-Germain elderflower liqueur instead of Aperol for a floral alternative.
- Does Aperol need to be refrigerated?
- No. Aperol is shelf stable and doesn't need refrigeration. It's best served over plenty of ice. Once opened, it will keep well for 3–6 months.
