What to Mix with Chambord: 8 Easy Chambord Cocktails
Updated
Chambord is the French black raspberry liqueur in the round, crown-topped bottle. It's rich, jammy and only 16.5% ABV, so a little goes a long way. Here's what to mix it with, eight cocktails to make with it, and how to get a bottle for less.
What is Chambord?
Chambord is a raspberry liqueur from the Loire Valley in France, inspired by a liqueur made in the region in the late 17th century. It's made by steeping red and black raspberries and blackberries in French spirits, then blending the infusion with XO cognac, Madagascar vanilla, citrus peel and honey. The result is sweet and deeply fruity with a hint of vanilla, at 16.5% ABV.
What mixes well with Chambord?
Chambord works best as an accent rather than the main spirit. Its easiest partners are sparkling wine (Prosecco or Champagne), vodka, gin, lemonade, pineapple juice and cranberry juice. It also pairs well with dark chocolate and vanilla, and a splash over vanilla ice cream makes an instant dessert.
1. Chambord Royale (Kir Royale)
15 ml Chambord in a champagne flute, slowly topped with 120 ml chilled Prosecco or Champagne. Garnish with a raspberry. It's the simplest and most popular Chambord drink, and it looks great at a celebration.
2. French Martini
45 ml vodka, 15 ml Chambord and 45 ml pineapple juice. Shake very hard with ice and strain into a chilled martini glass. The hard shake gives the pineapple a silky foam on top. It was a 1980s New York classic and is still a crowd-pleaser.
3. Bramble
50 ml gin, 25 ml lemon juice and 12 ml simple syrup, shaken and strained over crushed ice, then drizzled with 15 ml Chambord so it bleeds down through the ice. The original London recipe uses crème de mûre (blackberry liqueur); Chambord makes a slightly sweeter raspberry version.
4. Chambord Margarita
45 ml blanco tequila, 15 ml Chambord, 15 ml triple sec and 25 ml fresh lime juice. Shake and strain into a salt-rimmed glass. The raspberry softens the tequila and turns the drink a deep pink.
5. Chambord Spritz
30 ml Chambord and 90 ml Prosecco over ice in a wine glass, topped with a splash of soda and garnished with raspberries and a lemon wheel. It's a fruity alternative to the Aperol Spritz.
6. Chambord & Lemonade
35 ml Chambord over ice, topped with cloudy lemonade and a squeeze of lemon. It's the easiest Chambord serve there is, and a good low-alcohol option.
7. Raspberry Mojito
Make a standard mojito (50 ml white rum, 25 ml lime juice, 15 ml simple syrup, mint and soda) and add 15 ml Chambord before topping with crushed ice. A few fresh raspberries muddled with the mint make it even better.
8. Chambord Sour
45 ml Chambord, 25 ml bourbon, 25 ml lemon juice and an egg white. Dry shake, then shake again with ice and strain over fresh ice. The bourbon stops it from being too sweet, and the egg white adds a velvety texture.
Chambord bottle sizes and price
Chambord is usually sold in 50cl or 70cl bottles in the UK and 750ml in the US, with 375ml and 200ml miniatures also available from some retailers. The 200ml bottle is a cheap way to try it, but the larger bottles are much better value per millilitre.
